By the end of this tutorial, you should have a small map that is just a square piece of ground with a couple locators. SketchUp's workspace is very customizable so, depending on your chosen layout, you may not have certain important panels in view. We'd like to make a couple recommendations for the purposes of these tutorials and creating maps in general. The Map Builder relies heavily on a hierarchy of groups with special names and tags within their names to understand how to build maps.

For this reason we strongly recommend that the Outliner is easily accessible. You may also want the Entity Info panel in the same tray as it will make editing attributes of the currently selected object easier. With large models that have many thousands of groups, you may experience slowdown having the Outliner open so it may be good to get used to minimizing it by clicking the arrow near its header when you're not using it.

It would also be very beneficial to learn and understand how to make use of Layers for larger map projects. You will also want the Materials and Components panels accessible. You can technically put these in the same tray though if you have a good amount of screen real estate or multiple screens, you may find it more productive to make more than one tray and spread them out.

Lastly, all new SketchUp models begin with a Component named "Chris".

You can delete him if you'd like. The first thing you will want to do is save your empty model somewhere. For the purposes of these tutorials, you should save it as "Map.

It's also good to try to save fairly often in case something goes wrong such as a power outage or a SketchUp crash so you don't lose your work. You'll want to start by making some basic "terrain" in your SketchUp model, for the purposes of this tutorial, try using just a flat rectangle.

You should make this rectangle about 20 meters by 20 meters so there's a good amount of space to walk around. Now that you have some "terrain" you'll want to group it properly so that you can build it into a zone later.

Electrical components switches, outlets, service panels, lights can be installed into wall panels with the Medeek Electrical extension. Additional wall types, windows and doors are in the process of being added on a weekly basis. Advanced options and features such as crown moulding, baseboard, chair rails and wainscoting are also under development.

The extension allows the user to create wall panels singularily or in a polyline mode. When the rectangular wall tool is selected and the designer chooses the line mode the wall is then defined by selecting two points which form the start and end of the wall panel.

When the polyline mode is chosen each point defines both a wall panel end point and the next wall panels start point. If the auto-corner configuration is enabled within the global settings the wall panels will automatically form inside or outside corners based on the angles between the wall panels.

Once a wall panel is created it can be moved while at the same time remaining "glued" to other adjacent wall panels. Wall framing and other options are automatically re-calculated and re-drawn as required. This level of automation provides a design tool which should eliminate the need for manual modifications to the model, which are both time consuming and can be prone to user error.

Custom layers can be enabled in the global settings which allow various wall, window and door components to be placed on specific layers. Auto assignment of materials colors and textures are available as an option within the "Materials" and "Sheathing" tabs of the global settings.

With the 2D option the walls and windows are simply represented as planar faces and lines while still allowing the user to fully manipulate the wall panels and layout of openings. This mode is intended to be a very lightweight design mode and should allow the designer to quickly put together preliminary designs.

The "Framing Off" mode provides a full 3D model with all of the exterior element present however the internal framing of the wall is reduced to a single solid group. Additional elements that are found within the wall such as blocking, insulation and holdowns are not represented in this mode.

The "Framing On" mode is the most detailed mode of the extension and includes all the details of the previous mode along with full wall framing, holdowns and insulation.

In the full framing mode one can enable auto-dimensioning and each wall panel will receive dimensions for use in framing elevations. Advanced wall options allows for the creation of exterior wainscotingexterior corner trim, cavity insulation and structural holdowns. The default parameters for each of these advanced options can be specificed with the global settings. With Medeek Wall, you can accurately depict conventional wood frame construction with fully integrated windows and doors within SketchUp and better validate your architectural models.This tutorial will guide you through adding Fence collision to your map.

Fence collision is infinite vertical collision that is only collidable on one side. These are typically used as the "walls" of the map so the player can't escape its bounds. Fence Collision is represented in SketchUp as a series of lines in a group with a Fence group tag applied to it.

Since fences are one-way collision, which side is solid is determined by how you draw the lines and which tag you use on the group:. For this map, you can simply draw a square around the edges. If you draw the lines in such a way that they create a face, be sure to delete that face.

Once you're done, group the lines together. Make sure to go in the same direction with all of the lines! To start, you'll want to focus the Terra group that your roads are in and draw 4 lines going around the bounds of the map. Assuming you drew the lines in the same direction as the demonstration above clockwiseyou will want to tag use the FenceCCW group tag to make them face inwards towards the playable area.
